Funding Rate Tracker

Funding is the fee longs and shorts pay each other every 8 hours to keep a perpetual pinned to spot. Positive means longs pay shorts (a crowded long side); negative means the reverse. Here is the live board for every Binance USDT perpetual.

Trade funding, don't just watch it

Funding is a real signal: extreme positive rates often mark crowded longs. Describe a rule like "fade the highest-funding coins" in plain language and a bot runs it on paper, with no real money at risk.

How funding rates work

  1. 01

A perpetual has no expiry, so an 8-hourly funding payment keeps its price tethered to the spot market. When the perp trades above spot, funding is positive and longs pay shorts; below spot it is negative and shorts pay longs.

  2. 02

The rate shown is per 8-hour period. Annualized multiplies it by three payments a day and 365 days, so a small per-period number becomes a large yearly cost or yield.

  3. 03

High positive funding means it is expensive to stay long and can signal an overcrowded long side; deeply negative funding is the same story for shorts. Many traders treat the extremes as a contrarian signal.

Annualized ≈ funding rate × 3 × 365 (Binance settles every 8 hours)

Worked examples

Positive funding

A +0.0100% 8h rate is about +11% a year, paid by longs to shorts. Sustained high positive funding often means the long side is crowded and paying up to stay in.

Negative funding

A -0.0500% 8h rate is roughly -55% a year, paid by shorts to longs. It usually appears after sharp sell-offs when shorts dominate, and can mark short-side crowding.

Frequently asked questions

What is a funding rate?

It is a recurring payment exchanged between the long and short holders of a perpetual futures contract, usually every 8 hours, that keeps the contract's price close to the underlying spot price. It is not a fee paid to the exchange.

Does positive funding mean the price will fall?

Not directly. Positive funding tells you longs are paying shorts, which reflects crowded long positioning. Crowding can precede a reversal, but funding is a positioning signal, not a prediction. Confirm with price and test any rule on history.

What does annualized funding mean?

The board shows the rate for one 8-hour period. Annualized scales it to a yearly figure by assuming the same rate three times a day for a year, so you can compare it to other yields. Real funding changes every period, so treat it as an illustration, not a guarantee.

Where does this data come from?

Directly from Binance's public perpetual-futures API, refreshed on a short interval. It covers USDT-margined perpetuals only for now, and the number can differ slightly from the exchange between updates.
